Hi, I’m LaShonda Council Rogers, your personal injury and Atlanta, GA motorcycle accident lawyer. At Council & Associates, we’re committed to doing things the right way—because our firm cares.
If you’ve recently been injured in an accident, you may have already experienced it: unsolicited phone calls, strangers showing up at your hospital room, or someone trying to steer you toward a particular lawyer or doctor.
This unethical—and often illegal—behavior is the work of ambulance chasers and case runners, and it’s something you need to know how to spot and avoid.
🚫 What Is an Ambulance Chaser?
The term ambulance chaser refers to a lawyer who actively seeks out accident victims—often at hospitals or crash scenes—trying to pressure them into signing up for legal representation. This is more than just bad taste—it’s a direct violation of Georgia Bar rules that govern how attorneys must conduct themselves.
🚫 What Are Case Runners?
Some attorneys try to get around those rules by hiring case runners (also known as “runners”). These individuals aren’t licensed attorneys, so they’re not bound by the same ethical standards.
Runners might:
- Show up at your hospital
- Call or text you after a crash
- Pretend to be helpful, only to push you toward a particular lawyer or clinic
Here’s what many of them don’t realize:
In Georgia, it’s now a criminal offense to engage in this type of solicitation.
⚠️ If You’ve Been Contacted After an Accident, Ask Yourself:
- Do I know this person?
- Did I reach out to this lawyer or clinic on my own?
- Why are they pressuring me to make a decision while I’m vulnerable?
If the contact feels pushy, unethical, or just strange—it probably is.
Just think:
If someone is willing to risk breaking the law to get your case, do you really think they’ll be honest and ethical when handling your settlement or injury claim?
